In a surprising turn of events, the man who once sought refuge in exile, fearing for his life, now holds the highest office in Zimbabwe. Emmerson Mnangagwa, often referred to as “Scarfmore,” promised to return to his homeland and fix the nation’s problems, corruption being at the top of his list. Little did the oppressed and terrorized masses know that they were embracing a leader who would turn out to be the godfather of corruption, with his associates and relatives deeply embroiled in major corruption scandals.
For years, the word “corruption” in Zimbabwe was synonymous with futility, akin to lighting a grass-thatched house with yourself and all your belongings inside. To the politically vigilant and enlightened, the idea of Mnangagwa combatting corruption seemed absurd, given his apparent involvement in the looting and plundering of the country’s resources. This rampant corruption has left Zimbabwe paralyzed and teetering on the brink of state failure, with dire consequences for the entire region.
The ruling party, ZANU PF, has long been responsible for the prevailing state paralysis, with its track record marred by terrorism, tyranny, authoritarianism, illegitimacy, and a host of other issues. The masses, whose welfare has been systematically neglected, need to ask themselves critical questions about Mnangagwa’s sudden crusade against corruption. Why would someone who has been a part of numerous illegitimate governments, formed by the very members of the corrupt criminal enterprise known as ZANU PF, suddenly claim to be committed to combating corruption during his electoral campaign? The answer lies in the high stakes involved for Mnangagwa himself, including the threat of prosecution and the loss of access to the country’s finite fiscal and natural resources for his own enrichment.
It’s clear that the oppressed and terrorized masses have been scammed. They’ve been subjected to years of neglect and abuse under the oppressive rule of ZANU PF, a party that has repeatedly violated the supreme law of the land while mutilating and debasing the people’s welfare. Service delivery has been severely deprived, leaving the nation in a state of despair.
Mnangagwa’s empty promises to combat corruption have not only shattered the hopes of the people but have also exposed the deep-seated hypocrisy within his leadership. The very individuals who were entrusted with the responsibility to govern and protect the nation’s interests have been the ones driving it into chaos and hell. Mnangagwa’s rise to power was supposed to mark a turning point for Zimbabwe, a chance for real change and progress. Instead, it has become a grim reminder of the entrenched corruption that continues to plague the nation.
The fight against corruption should be a collective effort, led by individuals with unwavering integrity and a genuine commitment to the well-being of the people. Mnangagwa’s actions have shown that he is not the leader Zimbabwe needs to combat this pervasive issue. His empty rhetoric and double standards have only further eroded the trust of the masses, who deserve a government that works tirelessly to uplift their lives and build a brighter future.
As Zimbabwe teeters on the edge of state failure, it is imperative for the oppressed and terrorized masses to stay politically vigilant and enlightened. They must recognize that true change will only come when leaders are held accountable for their actions and when the fight against corruption is sincere and unwavering. Mnangagwa’s reign has been marked by broken promises and disappointment, but it is not too late for Zimbabwe to reclaim its future and build a nation free from the shackles of corruption and oppression.
